EARS, NOSE, THROAT & TEETH

Issues with hearing loss, eye sight, nose throat and teeth will affect many people who have Down’s syndrome at some point in their lives.

THYROID

Thyroid issues are common in children and adults who have Down’s syndrome. The thyroid gland is in the front of your neck just below the Adam’s apple.

GASTROINTESTINAL & DIABETES

Some gastrointestinal conditions are more common in people who have Down’s syndrome. Children who have Down’s syndrome may be more susceptible to digestive difficulties such as reflux, diarrhoea and constipation.

THE HEART

About half of all children who have Down’s syndrome are born with a heart condition. All children must have a thorough heart examination, including an echocardiogram, by six weeks of age to enable prompt treatment.
